Poor account has been inactive for quite a long time now. If I'm not wrong it was since the end of 2018, totaling to half a decade of inactivity here. Just to sum up, I've graduated with a bachelor's degree in graphic design and multimedia, worked real short period in an advertising company, became a barista at a chain coffee shop and then a private café. I've gotten experience: good, bad, and the terrible, that led to the development of mental health issues, thus my current job of being a self-employed artist.

Life story aside, I'll be revamping this account to showcase my latest creations, my new interests and my artistic skill level. Thank you to everyone both new and old who's been :+devwatch:my account while it was inactive, and for continuing to :+fav: my old artworks. Though I may no longer be as interested in certain fandoms as I used to, I will leave my old drawings up as they are as a reminder of my personal art journey and my progression of my artistic abilities. Last but not least, I'd like to apologize for the change of direction of this account. As it stands that I'm unable to change my username unless I'm a core member, I'd like to say sorry in advance to anyone expecting more MLP content from me. I will currently be creating more digital paintings, anime and manga inspired pieces and maybe some manga down the line. Thank you very much to my old followers for sticking around, and my best wishes to those wanting to unfollow me for this sudden change of art direction. Here's to a new start on DeviantArt! :D

It's been a real long time since I've written anything here, hasn't it?

Approaching my third and final year in university, I have to deal with the increasing difficulty of each semester's assignments and tasks. Since the majority of my course revolves around doing art related work, I am hardly able to get any time off to do drawings of my own, let alone get enough sleep each night. The most I could do was maybe respond to any comments and accept deviations sent to the group I'm managing after hours of work each day.

Once again, terribly sorry for my lack of activity on this site, and much appreciation to everyone still watching me for my future works. On the bright side of things, I do plan on doing art streaming on Picarto when I can. I'll post the announcement when I do and feel free to drop by and have fun watching my drawing process and maybe have a little chat. :)

And to celebrate, I'm sharing the process on how I do drawings, from start to finish, with SketchBook Express on my phone, if you guys are curious...

I'm not good at explaining this, so feel free to ask if you're not sure about anything here!

Our subjects for this presentation: Aloe Vera and Lotus Blossom, the spa ponies. :)

LET'S BEGIN!!

I start off with a very simple and rough sketch using the pencil tool. For this part, I try to pay attention to proportions and anatomy but not focusing too much on detail just yet. This gives me the "skeleton" for the line art.

Step 1 by PonyAdler86

The sketch opacity is reduced and a new layer is added. We'll call this Layer 2. This will be the layer for the body, facial features and objects. Here's when I do corrections for the posture, shape and position of the subjects in the drawing.

Step 2 by PonyAdler86

Then on another layer (Layer 3), I draw the accessories, hair and other details (cutie mark in this case). I added a speech bubble for Lotus saying welcome in Japanese because why not? :P   When I'm finally satisfied with the finished line art, I can clear the "skeleton" layer.

Step 3 by PonyAdler86

As I'm using the free version of SketchBook, I have access to only three layers per drawing. So to make room for two more layers, I merge both Layer 2 and Layer 3 together. Now I paint the base colour on the former "skeleton" layer which is below the line art layer. At this point, I want to experiment with the colour shades since I'm not using any original show references, thus the out-of-line colouring as shown below.

Step 4 by PonyAdler86

After selecting the right colours, I start colouring in properly and using an eraser clear up the mess outside the lines. I then start shading the eyes using the fine airbrush tool and adding highlights to them with the fine paintbrush tool.

Step 5 by PonyAdler86

Once I'm done, I create another layer for the shading the body, eyelids and the accessories.

Step 6 by PonyAdler86

Keep in mind: I am only allowed a maximum of three layers. When the shading so far is satisfactory, the shading layer will be merged together with the base colour layer.

Step 7 by PonyAdler86

Now for the hair shading. On a new layer, I use a both the pencil tool and the fine paintbrush tool. I began by painting with shades darker than the base colour before moving on to white highlights. Once that's done, this layer is merged together with the coloured layer.

Step 8 by PonyAdler86

For the final background layer, I will need to make the colour layer invisible. This will allow me to see the full background as it is with no obstructions but at the same time lets me see where I need to paint the counter.

Step 9 by PonyAdler86

With the wide airbrush tool, I begin with the base colour and followed by the shading. For the writing on the counter, I used the pencil tool and added the shadows with the fine airbrush tool. To make it look like it's behind a glass panel, I used the wide airbrush tool with a low opacity setting and sprayed on white lines.

Step 10 by PonyAdler86

...and that's all to it I guess.

This picture will be uploaded later. I still need to do some processing and colour correction.

Well...not exactly. It's an old account, but laying dead for a very long time.

Since I can't do a livestream session, I'll be doing speedpaint videos!!
